Former Site of Meixin Photography Studio

The former site of Meixin Photography Studio is a cultural relic protection unit of Changzhou City.

The former site of Meixin Photography Studio is located at No. 8, 10, and 12 Qiujiatong, Jiaoxi Village, Zhenglu Town, Tianning District. It was built during the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty. The building is a traditional two-story structure in the Jiangnan style, featuring a brick-and-timber hip-and-gable roof construction, with a single-entry layout of five bays. Above the main gate, there is a brick carving that reads “Photography Studio.” In the 1930s, photographer Xu Yunsan purchased the building to open a photography studio. Jiaoxi Meixin Photography Studio was widely renowned, attracting people from nearby towns and villages to have their photos taken. During the Japanese invasion of China, local residents from surrounding areas came here to get their “good citizen certificates” photographed.

Zhenglu Town: Zhenglu Town has a long history. The Sidun Site in Sanhuangmiao Village, located three kilometers south of the town, has yielded a large number of cultural relics through multiple excavations. These findings confirm that over 5,000 years ago, our ancestors lived and thrived here, creating an advanced phase of the Liangzhu culture and forming the embryonic form of a “state.”

Zhenglu Town enjoys a superior geographical location and convenient transportation.
