The Ancient City Wall of Chuansha is a cultural tourism attraction and a patriotic education base.

Located within Chengxiang Primary School at No. 171 Xinchuan Road, the wall was originally built during the Ming Dynasty. Only the southeastern corner remains today, featuring structures such as the Kuixing Pavilion, Yue Monument Pavilion, and the Brush Tower. Transportation: Bus routes 977, Chuanhong Special Line, Shilao Special Line, Dongchang Line, and Tourist Line 3. Admission/Opening Hours: Free. Group visits require reservation one week in advance.

The Ancient City Wall of Chuansha is now separated into a small park located within Chengxiang Primary School at No. 171 Xinchuan Road. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, only the southeastern corner remains, with structures such as the Kuixing Pavilion, Yue Monument Pavilion, and the former Wenbi Tower (now destroyed). Below the wall corner lies the Guanlan Academy, which is now Chengxiang Town Primary School. The wall once fell into severe disrepair due to lack of protection but was later restored, though some of its original rustic charm was lost. Still, the history embedded here is undeniable. Today, over 60 meters of the ancient wall remain. Visitors can climb up the bluestone steps and stroll along the shaded ramparts, reflecting on the past amid the tranquil historic site.

The Ancient City Wall of Chuansha was built by the people of Chuansha to defend against pirate invasions. Thanks to this wall, the locals successfully repelled multiple pirate attacks. It stands as physical evidence of the Chinese nation’s indomitable spirit in resisting foreign aggression. The three-story pavilion with flying eaves standing atop the wall is the restored Wenchang Palace’s Kuixing Pavilion. Opposite the Kuixing Pavilion is the Yue Monument Pavilion, also restored, which houses a stone tablet engraved with a rubbing of Yue Fei’s calligraphy. The piece is a seven-character quatrain in which Yue Fei encouraged a friend to rally and fight the enemy. Sadly, the handwriting has faded and is now difficult to discern.

Historical records indicate that the old city had four gates: Zhenhai Gate to the east, Yingrui Gate to the south, Taiping Gate to the west, and Gongji Gate to the north. Each had a drawbridge, and the moat was 12 zhang wide and 1.5 zhang deep. The wall featured four moon cities, 372 crenellations, and 12 artillery batteries, showing considerable scale. Over a century of weathering, many sections of the wall have collapsed, leaving a dilapidated sight. During the Republican era, the bricks were even taken down to pave streets. The remaining section of the wall today can be considered a place where the historical relics of Chuansha are most concentrated.
