Pudong Peony Garden

The Peony Garden is located in Jiefang Village, Gaohang Town, Pudong. It officially opened on April 8, 2002, and is Shanghai’s first true peony garden as well as the city’s first large-scale, distinctive garden built with farmers’ own funds during the adjustment of the rural industrial structure. Since 2002, the “Shanghai Peony Culture and Art Festival” has been held in the garden every April.

Covering an area of over 10 hectares, Pudong Peony Garden cultivates century-old peony treasures, featuring nine color series, more than 150 rare varieties, and nearly 30,000 peony plants introduced from Luoyang, Henan. The garden offers half-price admission for student groups, as well as for individual visitors with a student ID. It also provides free venue space for youth activities such as 18th birthday coming-of-age ceremonies and Young Pioneers (or Communist Youth League) induction events.
