Manqu Park

Manqu Park is bordered by Shangnan Eighth Village to the south, Lüli Road to the north, Hongshan Road to the west, and faces west. In 1995, the park covered an area of 18,300 square meters. The site was originally farmland. In June 1982, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Basic Construction approved the development of the site as a park, with the overall planning and landscaping design undertaken by the Shanghai Municipal Landscape Architecture Design Institute, and construction carried out by the Bijiao Branch of the Jiangsu Province Liyang County Construction Engineering Company. Work began on April 1, 1987, and the park was completed in September 1988, opening to the public on October 1. The total investment was 1.15 million yuan.

In the central-eastern part of the park, there is a children’s play wall, also known as the green climbing wall, designed for children to play hide-and-seek. Six play walls are arranged in parallel from south to north, spaced 2.2 meters apart. The walls vary in height and length, ranging from 1.5 to 3 meters in height and from 7–8 meters up to over 10 meters in length. All walls are covered with Boston ivy, and each has one or two openings for children to pass through. The park has a total of nine modular concrete pergola corridors — one is about 15 meters long, while the others are approximately 12 meters long. Three are located in the northeastern corner of the park, three in the children’s area, one next to the park’s souvenir shop, and the two in the center of the park serve as a combination of information display and greenery corridors. The park is primarily planted with climbing plants, including nine species totaling 1,172 plants: Boston ivy, wild rose, wisteria, Boston ivy, kudzu vine, trumpet creeper, oilvine, honeysuckle creeper, and climbing roses. There are 3,627 trees of 59 species, such as cedar, magnolia, camellia, green maple, privet, white magnolia, metasequoia, osmanthus, and gardenia. The lawn covers an area of 4,694 square meters. In the southeastern part of the park, there is a children’s playground covering over 600 square meters, equipped with amusement facilities such as seesaws, spiral slides, boat swings, merry-go-rounds, and rotating spiral slides. To the east of the children’s playground, there is a small train track with a circumference of 70 meters.
