Shanghai Central Park
Situated at the terminus of the planned axial boulevard in the Huamu area of Pudong, Shanghai, and recognized as a key city development project, Pudong Central Park covers a planned area of 140.3 hectares. The park’s overall plan is based on the proposal from the British company LUC. The construction design was developed by a collaborative design group formed by the Shanghai Pudong Land Development (Holding) Company along with Tongji University and other specialized design entities including landscape architecture, municipal engineering, and water conservancy. The master plan of the park reflects a fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, harmony between humans and nature, and embodies a modern style of Chinese garden design. The park will feature large expanses of lawns, forests, and lakes as its main elements, and will include scenic areas such as the Central Lake Island, Meeting Plaza, Rural Countryside, International Garden, and Sparse Woodland Lawns, as well as facilities for bird conservation, scientific experiences, open-air performances, and children's amusement parks.
Covering an area of 140 hectares, Pudong Central Park is the largest ecological green space within Shanghai’s central urban area. It provides a top-tier natural ecological environment for the Huamu administrative and cultural district, with large lakes embedded in the land of Pudong like mirrors. The park will be centered around vast lawns, forests, and lakes, and will include scenic zones such as the Central Lake Island, Meeting Plaza, Rural Countryside, International Garden, and Sparse Woodland Lawns, as well as facilities for bird protection, scientific experiences, open-air performances, and children's amusement parks.
Shanghai embroidery is divided into two main categories: decorative and practical. It is widely appreciated both domestically and internationally for its rich colors, clear layering, vivid shapes, and lifelike images. Shanghai carving is divided into five major types: jade carving, ivory carving, wood carving, lacquer carving, and stone carving. Shanghai jade carving includes four categories: censers and vases, figures, birds, and beasts, among which censers and vases are especially noted for their traditional characteristics. Ivory carving varieties include openwork fine carvings, leather carvings, and figure carvings, with a particular expertise in fine openwork carving. Metal crafts mainly consist of gold and silver ornaments, jewelry, various metal vessels, and enamel artworks. Gold and silver ornaments are a traditional craft of Shanghai, and Shanghai’s gold and silver jewelry is especially distinctive for its platinum-inlaid pieces and cultured pearl accessories.
