Changren Chan Temple

Changren Chan Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Changren Chan Temple is located on Wangqiao Street, outside the north gate of the old town of Chuansha. It was first built during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1522–1566), renovated in the 39th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1774), and rebuilt in the 2nd year of the Tongzhi reign. It was named after the former Changren Township where the temple site was located in Shanghai County.

Religious activities were halted during the Cultural Revolution. Starting from July 18, 1990, as a Mahayana Buddhist temple, it was gradually reopened while undergoing restoration and was renamed to its current title. On May 8, 1994, the temple’s consecration ceremony was presided over by Venerable Ming, Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China and Abbot of Longhua Temple, and Venerable Zhenchan, Abbot of Jade Buddha Temple, with over 3,000 Buddhist devotees in attendance.
