Attraction Introduction

The Shanghai Oriental Geological Science Museum is situated in the Pudong Geological Science Park, close to Pudong Airport. It boasts a collection of tens of thousands of rare stones, mineral crystals, paleontological fossils, and various gems gathered from around the globe, making it the largest geological exhibition hall in China. Here, visitors can explore the mysteries of the Earth and the wonders of nature from multiple perspectives, making it an ideal place for teenagers to gain knowledge and broaden their horizons.

The museum has two floors and includes various exhibition halls such as the Earth Hall, Land Resources Hall, Mineral and Rock Hall, Gem Hall, Paleontology Hall, Geological Landscape Hall, and Earth Structure Hall. Each exhibit is a masterpiece of nature, documenting the evolutionary history of the Earth. Topics covered range from the solar system, minerals, rocks, and geological structures, to landforms, paleontological fossils, natural gems, and even Shanghai’s geological environment. Professional guides provide tours on the hour and half-hour, offering deeper insights into the displays.

The museum’s exhibits are incredibly diverse. Among them, a massive red calcite crystal mineral named “Prosperity and Fortune” is the centerpiece. Formed 250 million years ago, it showcases unparalleled beauty. Another treasure is the “Iceberg Blaze” gypsum crystal column, where crimson crystals pile atop a transparent gypsum base, refracting a radiant glow like rosy clouds. Additionally, there are sea lily fossils from the Guizhou Triassic strata and a 38-meter-long outdoor petrified wood exhibit—both extremely rare sights that are sure to amaze.

In addition, the park where the Geological Science Museum is located also hosts several other exhibition halls, including the Ancient Lantern Museum, Bronze Mirror Museum, Korean War Memorial, Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum, Old Graduation Certificates Museum, Chinese Educated Youth Museum, and Drug Prevention Education Museum. All can be visited with a combo ticket. Visitors arriving by car can park for free, and there are restaurants nearby for meals.
