Attraction Introduction

Chocolate Happy Land is located in the Expo Park on the south bank of the Huangpu River. Nearly all exhibits in the park are made from chocolate, candy, and cookies. You can see the world’s largest chocolate castle, admire vintage cars, sofas, and sculptures made of chocolate, as well as detailed chocolate figures such as Hello Kitty, Transformers, and Crayon Shin-chan. Enjoying the fun percussion show or tasting your own freshly made pizza and cookies is definitely a hit with kids.

Chocolate Happy Land is China’s first large-scale chocolate-themed park, renovated from eight former national pavilions at the Expo, including the South Africa Pavilion, Egypt Pavilion, and Angola Pavilion. Though the park isn’t very large, it offers a rich variety of exhibits and activities, featuring venues such as the Dream Chocolate Kingdom, Sweet Eden, Fairy Tale Theme Hall, Bread Music Theater, Fashion Theme Hall, Baking Magic Street, and the 5,000 Years of China Pavilion.

Baking experiences are the park’s biggest highlight. With guidance from professional instructors, you can DIY your own chocolate, cakes, cookies, or pizza—all included with no extra charge. However, since these experiences require advance booking and are scheduled in timed batches, it’s best to avoid weekends, especially holidays and school breaks, when the wait can be quite long. If you arrive early, take advantage of the quieter times to try the DIY activities. Your “creations” can be taken home after baking, but note that items like cookies and pizza require about an hour to be ready.

Step into the Dream Chocolate Kingdom, and you’ll see the world’s largest chocolate castle. This 10-meter-tall Islamic-style structure was built using 98 tons of dark chocolate and 60 tons of milk chocolate. The castle walls, floors, and even famous sculptures like “David” and “Venus” are all crafted from chocolate. The exhibit area also features “bread paintings” made from thousands of slices of white toast, including masterpieces like the “Mona Lisa” and “Marilyn Monroe,” sure to leave you in awe.

The 5,000 Years of China Pavilion displays a full-scale model of the Forbidden City made from white chocolate, along with figures depicting the Peach Garden Oath that look like bronze statues, Qin dynasty chariots, ancient chime bells, and various lifelike “pottery” and “jade artifacts.” There’s also a five-meter-long “Nine-Dragon Wall,” and an imperial dragon robe that took three months to create—so realistic it’s almost unbelievable. Of course, all these antique-style exhibits are also made from bread, chocolate, candy, and cookies.

Additionally, the Fashion Theme Hall features vintage cars and sofas made of white chocolate, along with thousands of chocolate roses and tulips. The Fairy Tale Theme Hall is filled with chocolate versions of comic characters, including Crayon Shin-chan, Garfield, Hello Kitty, and even Transformers. Sweet Eden is a dreamy world made of chocolate and candy, complete with glowing mushrooms, small animals, rainbow bridges, and chocolate waterfalls—like a scene from a childhood dream.

The performances at the Bread Music Theater are equally captivating. You’ll see actors dressed as bakers dancing and creating melodies using pots, pans, and utensils—even the oven and grill become musical instruments, delivering high-energy entertainment. The theater also occasionally hosts magic shows and other performances. Shows run on fixed schedules, so check the posted program and timings at the theater entrance for details.

Special Tips

1. Food and drinks purchased inside the park or eaten at the restaurants tend to be quite expensive, so it’s recommended to bring your own water and snacks.

2. During summer vacation, there are often long queues for experience activities, so it’s best to plan your visit during off-peak hours.
