British Consulate General in Shanghai
The British Consulate General in Shanghai (on the Bund) is located at No. 33 on the Bund. It is the oldest and the only 19th-century building among the Bund architectural complex in Shanghai, completed in 1873. The architectural style belongs to the popular colonial design of the 19th century, featuring a hipped roof, arcaded verandas on both floors, and a brick-and-wood structure. In 1966, the British Consulate General in Shanghai was closed, and the compound became the office space for the Shanghai Municipal Government Offices Administration. In 2003, it was transferred to the New Huangpu Group. It is currently under renovation and is set to reopen as the Peninsula Hotel.
