Changtai Plaza is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Changtai Plaza is located in the Zhangjiang area of Pudong New District, directly above Line 2 of the Shanghai Metro. It is just a 30-minute drive from the People’s Square business district and the Lujiazui financial center in Pudong. With a total construction area of 320,000 square meters, Changtai Plaza will primarily serve residents in the Zhangjiang, Lianyang, Biyun, and Expo Park areas. Its consumer base is characterized by high education levels, high income, and strong purchasing power. Data shows that nearly 750,000 high-end individuals will become the main consumers of Changtai Plaza.

The overall layout of Changtai Plaza is divided into two parts: the high-rise office area and the multi-story commercial area. The high-rise office area consists of Buildings 1 to 5, arranged in an L-shape along the north side of the site and Halle Road, with Buildings 2 and 3 connected by a structure. The commercial area is distributed along Jinke Road, Zu Chongzhi Road, and Halle Road, forming an organic whole through courtyards and corridors. From the perspectives of urban design and pedestrian flow evacuation, entrance plazas are set at the intersections of Jinke Road and Zu Chongzhi Road, as well as Halle Road and Zu Chongzhi Road. A sunken plaza is also located in the middle of Zu Chongzhi Road and in the central part of the site, forming the landscape spine of the entire commercial area. The various plazas are interconnected by pedestrian streets. Within the commercial complex, several inner courtyards of varying characteristics are formed through the enclosure of buildings and elements such as colonnades and corridors. The somewhat distant yet connected layout of the buildings creates a rich internal space. The two-level basement beneath the site is fully utilized, with the first basement level designated for a commercial plaza, non-motorized vehicle parking, and equipment rooms. This level is naturally divided by the sunken plaza, addressing issues such as lighting and evacuation. The second basement level is used for motor vehicle parking and civil air defense.

The façade design of Changtai Plaza draws inspiration from historical architecture, combining arcades, streets, courtyards, and landscape plazas to create a friendly pedestrian experience. The commercial building exteriors adopt a Spanish style, using architectural form combinations to shape the building image. Based on the Art Deco style, the design is refined to emphasize volume, dignity, and composure, while highlighting a sense of the times and innovation. The entire building complex features varied heights and a dynamic skyline. The façade uses light and shadow to shape the building image, making full use of material textures, patterns, and the interplay of solid and void to create form. The office building facades feature the classic Art Deco (Decorative Art) style. The architectural appearance not only reflects contemporary characteristics but also reflects the historical brilliance of classical architecture.

A horizontal and vertical landscape spine, along with a circular axis, runs through the entire site, creating a rich spatial effect through sunken plazas. The various plazas and the pedestrian walkways connecting them are mainly paved with hard materials, complemented by trees and flower beds, and decorated with sculptures and small features, presenting an open and pleasant urban landscape. Within the large spaces enclosed by the buildings, a cohesive landscape center is created to maximize the landscape value, while also enriching the pedestrian experience. Elegant walking paths connect a series of courtyards, terraces, outdoor dining areas, and water features, with each space offering a unique atmosphere and mix of tenants.

Located in the core area of Pudong, Changtai Plaza covers an area of over 83,000 square meters, with a total leasable construction area of approximately 319,081 square meters. The planning and design were carried out by the internationally renowned architectural firm, The Jerde Partnership (USA). With the State Council’s approval of the “Greater Pudong” policy, in addition to the original four national-level development zones—Lujiazui, Waigaoqiao, Jinqiao, and Zhangjiang—New Pudong now also includes key national industrial clusters such as Yangshan Free Trade Zone and Lingang New City. Focused on major goals such as the “Two Centers,” Greater Pudong has become a key driver of economic development for Shanghai and even the nation in the future.
