The Shanghai Petroleum & Chemical Technology Museum serves as a science education base.

"Petroleum Baby" gently introduces you to how oil is extracted through multimedia; "Petroleum Sprite" demonstrates the magical process of crude oil turning into various chemical products using high-tech holographic imaging; you can also operate the on-site camera to take a "glamour shot" of yourself in the petrochemical world as a souvenir... This is China’s first specialized exhibition hall dedicated to petroleum and chemical industries — the Shanghai Petroleum & Chemical Technology Museum.

Covering an area of approximately 1,500 square meters, the Shanghai Petroleum & Chemical Technology Museum was jointly invested in and built by the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission and Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited, and officially opened in 2006. The museum is a professional exhibition space for petrochemical science knowledge, reconstructed from the original Shanghai Petrochemical exhibition hall. It consists of four exhibition halls, primarily showcasing the overview of Shanghai Petrochemical, the formation and exploration of oil, oil refining and chemical engineering, plastics and chemical fibers, a mini encyclopedia of petrochemical science, historical milestones, corporate culture, and Party building. Featuring 14 exhibits — including a large-scale sand table model of Shanghai Petrochemical’s production and residential areas, holographic imaging of petroleum processing technology, virtual books, the wonderful world of chemical fibers, and the historical journey of Shanghai Petrochemical — the museum presents the close relationship between petrochemicals and human life in terms of clothing, food, housing, and transportation from various perspectives, as well as the significant role Shanghai Petrochemical plays in the industry.

Over the years, the museum has focused on corporate culture and community cultural development, organizing science outreach activities that start from key points and expand outwards. Through the exemplary role of the science education base, it has popularized petrochemical knowledge, promoted the scientific spirit, cultivated innovation capabilities, inspired public interest in science, and encouraged the whole society to embrace a positive atmosphere of learning, loving, and applying science. In the past four years, the cumulative number of visitors has reached tens of thousands.
