Shanghai Nanshe Memorial Hall

Shanghai Nanshe Memorial Hall is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a patriotic education base.

The Nanshe Memorial Hall is located within the former residence of Yao Guang at No. 139 Xinhua Road, Zhangyan Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai. Established in May 2004, it is the first memorial hall in China to comprehensively display the historical deeds of Nanshe figures, reflecting the overall history of China's progressive intellectuals participating in social revolution and various cultural activities in the early 20th century. The memorial hall was officially opened to the public free of charge in January 2009. In April 2010, the Shanghai Nanshe Memorial Hall was designated as a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The exhibition content is divided into ten major sections: "Historical Merits," "Martyrs' Renown," "Pioneering Public Opinion," "Education for National Revival," "Scholarly Achievements," "Calligraphy and Literature," "Pursuit of Science," "Family Learning Traditions," "Women's Achievements," and "Global Recognition." It comprehensively reflects the history of China's progressive intellectuals participating in social revolution and various social and cultural activities. This is also the former residence of Yao Guang, who was one of the leaders of Nanshe and once served as its director.

Nanshe was the largest and most influential progressive cultural organization in modern Chinese history, as well as a united front group. In the new historical period, there is great potential in leveraging the advantages of the organization to consolidate and develop the patriotic united front. Commemorating and studying Nanshe holds significant value. In April 2011, the Nanshe Memorial Hall became a patriotic united front education and training base in Jinshan District.
