Former Residence of Gu Shuiru

The former residence of Gu Shuiru is a cultural heritage site protected at the district level in Jinshan District.

The former residence of Gu Shuiru is located at No. 228 Youhao Street, Fengjing Town. Gu Shuiru (1890–1971) was a native of Fengjing. He began learning the game of Go at the age of nine, and by the age of 16, his skill had surpassed all local players. In 1917, he earned the title of "Go Sage" after defeating the Wuhan Go King and renowned players from Beijing. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as a research fellow at the Shanghai Municipal Cultural and Historical Research Institute and as the principal of the Shanghai Go School, among other positions. The residence faces north and is a two-story brick-and-wood structure. It was designated as a Jinshan District-level cultural heritage site on October 26, 2005.
