Tomb of Gu Guanguang

The Tomb of Gu Guanguang is a cultural relic protection unit of Jinshan District.

Gu Guanguang (1799–1862), also known as Shangzhi and styled Binwang, was a native of Qianwei and a natural scientist of the Qing Dynasty. A lifelong diligent scholar, he excelled in medicine and had particular expertise in astronomy, calendrics, mathematics, and historical geography. He authored numerous works, among which the ten essays of Jiushu Waolu (Supplementary Notes on the Nine Mathematical Arts) essentially covered the essentials of Western arithmetic methods of the time. After his death, local villagers built a tomb for him, oriented east-facing-west. In 1932, people from all walks of life held a public memorial service to renovate the tomb and erect a stele. It was renovated again in 1992, with the tomb platform standing one meter high and covering an area of 337 square meters. It consists of a tomb tablet, tomb mound, and a sandstone gravestone. The surroundings are planted with evergreen trees such as dragon juniper and podocarpus, preserving the characteristics of late Qing Dynasty ancient tombs. It was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Jinshan County in 1962.
