Shanghai doesn’t have many historical relics, and the ones it does have are mostly architectural. Old-style Western houses are the finest examples of old Shanghai architecture. With their sharply pitched roofs, quaint 0, and weathered black iron fences, these retro buildings tucked away in the modern and bustling metropolis of Shanghai undoubtedly allow visitors to find a sense of history and culture. Shanghai’s old-style Western houses are typically detached or semi-detached villas, with three or four sides exposed, featuring exquisite interiors such as living rooms, dining rooms, and multiple well-appointed bathrooms.

Shanghai’s old-style Western houses are mainly concentrated in four downtown districts: Xuhui District, Changning District, Luwan District, and Jing’an District. Fenyang Road, Yuyuan Road, Wukang Road, Hunan Road, Sinan Road, Changle Road, Huashan Road, Xingguo Road, and Maoming Road are the areas with the highest concentration of these historic homes.
