Caoxi Park

Bordered by Caoxi Road to the west, Caodong Branch Road to the east, Cao dong 2nd Road to the north, and Cao dong 3rd Road to the south, the park covers an area of 31,300 square meters. With picturesque scenery, quaint bridges over flowing streams, winding paths leading to secluded spots, elegant pavilions, corridors, and waterside gazebos, the park features ancient charm. Unique rock formations are found throughout, while flowers and trees are planted in harmony with the landscape. The park boasts 70 species of trees and 1,590 flower plants. The southern section mainly features peonies and tree peonies, while the northern part highlights osmanthus and wintersweet. Plants are arranged according to the scenery: indoor spaces display potted plants, ponds are adorned with lotus flowers, hillsides are planted with wintersweet, pavilion sides feature osmanthus, and roadsides are lined with graceful bamboo—each element placed where it suits best. The park’s peonies are widely renowned, with a rich variety. The signature peony flower bed spans nearly 1,000 square meters, showcasing over 60 varieties and 600 plants from both local and Cao County stock. Notable types include multicolored peonies and white peonies, which are large, pure in color, and double-petaled, reminiscent of the Luoyang style. The oldest specimen is over 120 years old, making it a rare treasure in Shanghai. To enrich the color palette of the peony garden, the design employs the artistic technique of “stars surrounding the moon,” incorporating various flowering shrubs such as crabapple, camellia, crape myrtle, red maple, magnolia, and azalea to offer visitors enjoyment throughout all seasons.
