Huang Daopo Memorial Hall

On March 21, 2003, the Huang Daopo Memorial Hall was opened in Dongwan Village, Huajing Town, Xuhui District, Shanghai, adjacent to the serene and classic Huang Daopo Tomb. The memorial hall covers a construction area of about 300 square meters. Upon entering the courtyard, visitors are greeted by a 2.2-meter-tall statue of Huang Daopo. The gate pillars are inscribed with the couplet “Two hands weave garments from the clouds, one shuttle travels through the universe,” and the horizontal plaque is inscribed with the words “Clothing for All Under Heaven” by the esteemed Mr. Zhou Gucheng.

The memorial hall features three exhibition rooms. The main exhibition room displays the life story of Huang Daopo and her historical contributions to China’s textile industry. The other two exhibition rooms showcase textile tools and cotton textiles from different periods. In the textile tools room, there are more than 30 various types of cotton fluffers, spinning machines, and looms. The cotton textiles room houses over 300 items, including patterned cotton cloth, blue printed fabric, cotton garments, aprons, belly bands, and bed linens, many of which are valuable relics preserved from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
