Shanghai Grand Stage is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Shanghai Grand Stage, located in the southwestern part of Shanghai and right opposite the renowned Huating Hotel, was formerly known as the Shanghai Gymnasium. As one of China’s major stadiums, the Shanghai Gymnasium was built and put into use in 1975. The main hall is circular, standing 33 meters high, with a roof truss spanning a diameter of 110 meters, and has a seating capacity of 18,000. Shanghai Grand Stage was reconstructed in October 1999 on the basis of retaining the original functions of the Shanghai Gymnasium. The Grand Stage features a two-tiered structure, with an olive-shaped stage floor. The maximum effective span from left to right at both ends of the stage is 60 meters, and the maximum depth from front to back is 32 meters, covering a total stage area of approximately 1,250 square meters. It can accommodate around 8,000 to 10,000 spectators for large-scale cultural performances, and up to 12,000 spectators for sports events. In addition, it can host large conferences for 5,000 to 10,000 people, medium-sized conferences for around 2,000 to 5,000 people, as well as small meetings for several hundred attendees, making it the first theater-style multifunctional large indoor stadium in China. The stage proscenium (with curtain) is 16 meters high and 28 to 42 meters wide (adjustable with side curtains). At the center of the stage, there are seven sets of large mechanical stages totaling 300 square meters. The sophisticated design of these mechanical stages, along with comprehensive supporting facilities, provides the fundamental assurance and creative flexibility to produce various stage effects for all types of large-scale events. Shanghai Grand Stage (Shanghai Gymnasium) is the first theater-style large indoor stadium in China, with a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
