Statue Square of Nie Er

The Statue Square of Nie Er serves as a patriotic education base.

On October 28, 1992, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Nie Er's birth, people from all walks of life in Shanghai erected a full-body bronze statue of Nie Er in the central garden at the intersection of Fuxing Road and Huaihai Middle Road in the bustling downtown area. The statue was designed and created by the renowned 85-year-old Chinese sculptor, Mr. Zhang Chongren. At the time residing in France, upon learning that construction of the Nie Er statue in Shanghai was about to begin, Mr. Zhang traveled a long distance back to Shanghai. He personally organized the model-making for the statue, selected the Nanchang Casting Factory out of three foundries nationwide to cast it, and went to Nanchang to oversee the process carefully until the completion and installation of the sculpture. The statue of Nie Er stands nearly 4 meters tall, with his coat open, gaze directed toward the crowd ahead, his left foot stepping forward, and arms raised as if conducting a song.
