Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute (No. 704 Research Institute)

The Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute (No. 704 Research Institute) is a patriotic education base.

Founded in 1956, the Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute is now affiliated with China Shipbuilding Industry Group. The institute is mainly engaged in applied research and design development of special auxiliary marine electromechanical equipment. It has over 30 specialized fields including special machinery, deck machinery, conveying machinery, cabin machinery, electrical machinery, power stations, automation, environmental protection, refrigeration, thermal engineering, hydraulics, and degaussing. It has provided more than 3,000 sets of supporting equipment products for over 150 types of ships as well as marine engineering projects and industrial enterprises. The institute is an approved doctoral and master's degree training institution under the State Council, the centralized management unit for hydraulic technology in the marine industry, the centralized management unit for ship standards, and a measurement unit for industrial torque instruments in Shanghai. It holds national quality system certification for both military and civilian products, and has represented China in relevant activities of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for many years.
