Xu Guangqi Memorial Hall

The Xu Guangqi Memorial Hall is located at No. 17 Nandan Road. It was relocated and reconstructed from the Ming Dynasty residence “Nanchunhua Hall,” covering an area of over 400 square meters, with an exhibition space of more than 220 square meters. The exhibition is divided into four sections: Global Vision, Scientific Spirit, Patriotic Sentiment, and Noble Character. The museum houses precious collections such as portraits of Xu Guangqi, his manuscripts, handwritten notes, documents, and writings, showcasing the contemporary relevance and value of Xu Guangqi's spirit.

Xu Guangqi (1562–1633), courtesy name Zixian and art name Xuanhu, was a native of Shanghai. He became a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations in the late Ming Dynasty and rose to the positions of Grand Guardian of the Heir Apparent, Minister of Rites, and Grand Secretary of the Wenyuan Pavilion. He was buried in Guangqi Park, Xujiahui, in 1641. Xu introduced Western science and technology to China and made outstanding contributions in fields such as mathematics, astronomy, agriculture, and military science. He is honored as a patriotic scientist of the late Ming Dynasty and the first facilitator of cultural exchange between China and the West.
