Former Site of the Central Political Bureau After the 6th CPC National Congress

The Former Site of the Central Political Bureau After the 6th CPC National Congress is a Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a patriotic education base.

Address: No. 171–173 Yunnan Middle Road, Huangpu District, Postal Code: 200001, Tel: 021-63225232, Public Transport: Bus Routes 18, 864, Metro Lines 1 & 2

In the spring of 1928, Xiong Jinge, who was serving as the Party Central Committee’s accountant in Shanghai, rented three rooms on the upper floor of the Shengli Hospital at No. 447 Yunnan Road (now No. 171–173 Yunnan Middle Road) under the guise of a businessman, setting up the Party Central Committee’s Political Bureau office there and hanging a sign for the “Fuxing” business as a cover. From the autumn of 1928 to April 1931, leaders of the Central Political Bureau, the Central Military Commission, and the Jiangsu Provincial Committee—including Zhou Enlai, Xiang Ying, Qu Qiubai, Li Lisan, Peng Pai, Deng Xiaoping, Li Weihan, Li Fuchun, Ren Bishi, and Deng Zhongxia—often held meetings here. Zhou Enlai worked here almost daily. In late April 1931, due to the arrest and betrayal of a party member, the office was safely relocated under Zhou Enlai’s personal arrangements. The site now features simple text information. It currently serves as residential housing and is not open to the public.
