Heishan Forest Ecotourism Area

The Heishan Forest Ecotourism Area is situated in the shallow mountainous region of the southern foothills of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, 45 kilometers from Bayan County. It neighbors the Mudan area to the east and the Dongfeng Forest Farm of Qing'an County to the northeast. This area serves as a major habitat for wild boars, deer, roe deer, bears, foxes, eagles, and hazel grouse. The mountains also hold mineral resources including limestone, graphite, quartz, and sulfur, with construction sand and stone being the most widely distributed. Heishan boasts stunning natural scenery, much of which is formed by nature itself. There are over ten unique natural landscapes, such as “Divine Turtle Mountain,” “Little Dragon Mountain,” “Fairy Net,” “Flying Dragon Spring,” and “Coiling Dragon Ridge.”

Among these, Coiling Dragon Ridge has an elevation of 455 meters, with a 30-meter-high watchtower built at its summit. From the top of the tower, nearby villages appear like scattered chess pieces on a board—especially breathtaking when rain is approaching, as fog shrouds the mountain peaks, occasionally revealing a corner of the ridges; the mist spreads out like rolling ocean waves, creating a spectacular and majestic view. This sight has been listed as one of Bayan’s top ten scenic spots and is named the “Heishan Sea of Clouds.”

The tourism area is divided into six major zones: the Forest Farm Central Zone, Divine Turtle Mountain Leisure Zone, Ecological Conservation Zone, Science Education and Sightseeing Zone, Hiking Activity Zone, and Cross-Country Skiing Zone. Key developments can include projects such as a botanical garden, forest ecology science museum, wildlife park, water activity zone, ice sports training base, and leisure conference center.
