Yima Mountain National Forest Park is a national-level forest park.

Yima Mountain National Forest Park is located in Xiji Town in the northwest of Bayan County. In 1992, it was approved as a provincial-level forest park by the provincial government, and large-scale development and construction began in 1995. The park is designed to include four major scenic areas, five functional zones, and two service facilities. It has now taken initial shape. Its most prominent attraction is Lingyin Temple, which covers a planned area of 100,000 square meters, stretching 400 meters from east to west and 250 meters from north to south. Located on the southern slope of five continuous peaks northeast of Yima Mountain’s main peak and northwest of Yima Mountain Villa, the temple faces south. From south to north, it features the Mountain Gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Mahavira Hall, the Three Saints Hall, and the Scripture Depository. Upon entering the gate, there is a bell tower and a drum tower on each side. Inside the temple grounds, the eastern side houses the Child-Giving Guanyin Hall, the Arhat Hall, and the Stupa Forest, while the western side includes the Dining Hall, the residential area for lay Buddhists, the Sheli Pagoda, and the Bhikkhu Pagoda. At the northern end of Lingyin Temple, on the central peak of five mountain peaks resembling seated Buddhas, a 13-story pagoda has been built. Including auxiliary structures, there are a total of 23 buildings, with some scenic spots already completed.

On the western side of Lingyin Temple, there is a cliff that resembles a stone gate. Legend has it that long ago, a heavenly horse violated the laws of heaven, and the Jade Emperor punished it by sending it down to Yima Mountain, where it turned into a golden colt. Inside the stone gate, the colt spent its days and nights pulling a golden millstone to grind golden beans as tribute to the heavens. Later, unable to bear the hardship, the golden colt broke through the stone gate, flying off to Bayan City with the golden millstone and beans. The golden millstone ground out a golden path for the people of Bayan leading to the outside world, and the golden beans became the widely renowned “Bayan Soybeans.”

Beside this stone gate, there is also a stone slab resembling a table, about three feet high, rectangular in shape. On the tabletop are small stones round like chess pieces, arranged in rows and columns in a layout resembling a game of Go. On either side of the table are a pair of stone slabs shaped like stools. Legend says that two immortals often emerged from a cave inside the stone gate and sat here playing chess, hence later generations named this scene “Immortals Playing Chess at Yima.”

Transportation to Yima Mountain:

By car: Exit the city via the Highway Bridge — Dagengzi Roundabout — the boundary between the old and new districts of Hulan — National Highway 101 (Hao-Zhao Highway) — the entrance of Yima Mountain National Forest Park. The entire route is on national highways, taking about 70 minutes to arrive.

By bus: From Sankeshu Long-Distance Bus Station, buses depart every 10 minutes starting at 6:00 AM.
