Gao Li Village — just hearing the name tells you it’s a Korean ethnic village. It is located in Waxing Town, Bayan County, Heilongjiang Province, and you won’t find it marked on the national map. Yet, with its unique charm, Gao Li Village has captured the world’s attention and become a beautiful highlight of tourism in Heilongjiang.

In recent years, with the improvement of people’s living standards, the tourism industry has boomed. Gao Li Village is 35 kilometers from Xinglong Town, Bayan County. The tourist attractions include Gao Li Village and Jiangwan Reservoir, covering a total area of about 5 square kilometers. The area boasts strong ethnic culture, water scenery, rice field culture, serene surroundings, and a water park. Gao Li Village was established in 1926 and currently has 92 households with a population of 365, all of whom are of Korean ethnicity. The customs here still maintain typical Korean traditions, with housing, clothing, food, sports, etiquette, and entertainment all preserving the heritage of a traditional Korean village. The festivals in Gao Li Village also adhere to Korean ethnic customs. In addition to traditional holidays such as Qingming, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Spring Festival, there are also family celebrations such as Huija (60th birthday) and Guihun (60th wedding anniversary). Originally an agricultural village focused mainly on rice cultivation, Gao Li Village had 2,000 mu of paddy fields. The development of tourist attractions has played a certain role in boosting the village’s economic growth.
