Bayan River Bay National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Heilongjiang Bayan River Bay National Wetland Park is located 5 kilometers north of Waxing Town, Bayan County. It covers a total area of 1,203.91 hectares, of which 1,175.75 hectares are wetlands, accounting for a high wetland ratio of 97.6%. The park boasts abundant wildlife resources and is an important component of the province’s biological diversity. It plays a significant role in maintaining the balance of the natural ecosystem and in the protection and sustainable use of wetland biodiversity.

Bayan River Bay National Wetland Park is situated on the eastern edge of the Songnen Plain and in the low mountainous and hilly areas of the southern Xiao Xing’an Mountains. The main types of natural vegetation include communities of small-leaved elm, sedge, and willow shrubs, with some relatively pristine mixed forests of Korean pine and broadleaf trees still present.

The park has now built facilities such as sightseeing corridors, wetland walks, bird paradise areas, fishing platforms, and bird-watching shelters. The wetland ecological environment has further improved, with an increase in both the number and species of birds. According to the latest monitoring data, the number of birds in the park has doubled compared to before, and 15 new species have been recorded. Some previously rare and missing bird species have also returned to breed and inhabit the park.

A variety of protected animals can be found here, including two nationally first-class protected bird species: the red-crowned crane and the oriental white stork; and 13 nationally second-class protected bird species: the whooper swan, great egret, white-naped crane, mandarin duck, black kite, northern goshawk, peregrine falcon, short-eared owl, greater white-fronted goose, rough-legged buzzard, cinereous vulture, red-footed falcon, and the eagle owl.
