Harbin Huazang Temple

Harbin Huazang Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

In Lalin Manchu Town, Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province, two eminent monks were born: one was the founder of the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in California, USA—Master Hsuan Hua; the other was the president of the Jilin Buddhist Association and abbot of Yu Huang Ge Temple on Beishan Mountain—Master Qing Le. Both monks shared a wish to have a temple built in their hometown of Lalin Manchu Town.

Since childhood, Master Shuo Guo Jie had deep faith in Buddhism and studied under Master Qing Le for many years, gaining profound insight into the Dharma. In 1987, he was invited to accompany Master Qing Le with the Chinese Buddhist Delegation to the United States’ City of Ten Thousand Buddhas to attend the “Water, Land, and Air Dharma Assembly for Praying for World Peace.” During this time, he took refuge under Master Hsuan Hua and received the Bodhisattva Precepts. After returning to China, when the opportunity arose, he went to Yuquan Temple on Jiuhua Mountain to become ordained, dedicating himself to meditation, worship, benefiting sentient beings, and studying the Dharma.

In the spring of 1995, while visiting his hometown, he reflected on the wishes of Master Hsuan Hua and Master Qing Le, and responded to the aspirations of local Buddhist devotees, which inspired him to restore and establish a temple in Lalin Manchu Town.

Local governments at all levels actively supported the implementation of the Party’s religious policies, allocating 50,000 square meters of land. With approval from the Heilongjiang Provincial Religious Affairs Bureau, the foundation-laying ceremony for Huazang Temple was held on April 28, 1995, in Lalin Manchu Town, Wuchang City. Master Shuo Guo Jie served as the abbot and self-raised funds to begin the construction of Huazang Temple.

Covering an area of 370,000 square meters, Huazang Temple features uniquely designed archways, tall walls, the Mahavira Hall, the Three Saints Hall, the Guanyin Hall, the Ksitigarbha Hall, the Scripture Depository, the Distribution Center, monastic quarters, the guest hall, and lay practitioners' dormitories. The Mahavira Hall stands 32 meters high and covers an area of 1,724 square meters. Its architecture boasts double-layered flying eaves, water drainage on all four sides, and presents a grand, vast, and solemn sacred atmosphere.

Transportation by Bus: In Harbin, take a bus to Wuchang City and get off at Lalin Town.

Self-Drive Route: From Harbin, enter the Ring Expressway, drive 29.0 km, exit at Heping Road/Wuchang, enter Harping Road and drive 1.5 km, then enter Pinglin Highway and drive 7.2 km, continue straight onto Linping Highway for 41.6 km, turn right onto G202 and drive 3.0 km, then turn left and drive 350 meters to reach the destination.
