Arctic Sandbar

Arctic Sandbar is a large comprehensive scenic area that integrates natural and cultural landscapes. It was formed after the major flood of 1958, the worst flood in Arctic Village’s history, when water levels rose to over 190 meters, inundating the entire village and bringing immense hardship to local residents. After the flood, the course of several rivers changed, leading to the formation of this sandbar. The ground today remains largely covered in fine sand due to the lighter black soil being washed away by the floodwaters, leaving behind an abundance of sand.

The sandbar features multiple attractions including: the Rare Animals Exhibition, Body Test Gate, Oroqen Altar, Pictographic “North” Character Sculpture, Northernmost Point, Seven-Star Altar, and Xuanwu Altar, with rest pavilions along the way. Located at the “northernmost of the north,” the area has a unique style and has attracted numerous visitors since its completion. Visiting Arctic Village without seeing the Sandbar means you haven’t truly been to the northernmost point; not taking a photo on the Sandbar means you don’t have a memento of the true north.
