- Mohe Arctic Village is situated 87 kilometers north of Mohe County in the Greater Khingan Mountains region and is known as the "Arctic Village" and the "City That Never Sleeps." It is the northernmost and highest-latitude point in China, as well as the best place in the country to view the aurora borealis and the midnight sun. Although it is far from the actual Arctic Circle, it marks China’s northernmost point at a latitude of 53°N.
The winter here is extremely long, with temperatures dropping as low as -53°C. Days are short and nights are long in winter — it gets dark by 3 PM, and the shortest days have just over three hours of daylight.

Mohe Winter Travel Tips:
1: Warm Clothing: Wear lightweight but highly insulated clothing such as down jackets, down pants, snow boots or cotton shoes, thermal underwear, ear-covering hats, scarves, and cotton gloves. Staying warm isn’t enough — keep moving to generate body heat so you don’t feel cold. (Avoid staying outside too long to prevent frostbite.)
2: Slip Prevention: Roads in Mohe are often icy or snowy in winter. Walk slowly and carefully when visiting attractions or going out to avoid slipping and injury. Be sure to wear anti-slip snow boots. It’s recommended to keep your hands out of your pockets while walking to help cushion falls.
3: Skin Care: The winter climate in Mohe is dry, and indoor temperatures are high. Bring oil-based, highly moisturizing face cream and hand cream to protect your skin.
4: Eye Protection: It’s advised to wear sunglasses or ski goggles (avoid metal-framed glasses in winter) to protect your eyes from the intense glare reflected off the snow.
5: Special Note on Electronics: Keep your camera and phone warm. Due to the low outdoor temperatures, batteries drain quickly. Carry spare batteries and keep your devices inside your clothing when not in use to prevent the shutter from freezing. When entering a building from the cold, wrap your camera in a plastic bag to prevent condensation and potential damage.
6: It’s recommended to bring a thermos for hot water and carry some high-calorie snacks like chocolate. Avoid drinking unboiled water and pay attention to your diet.
Special Reminder: Never touch bare metal objects with wet or damp hands. Doing so may cause your skin to stick to the metal.
7: It’s advisable to bring some cold medicine, painkillers, anti-diarrhea medication, and motion sickness pills, just in case.
8: When playing near the Heilongjiang border river in Arctic Village or Beihong Village, never cross the border — never cross the border — never cross the border. Important things must be said three times.
9: Although frozen goods in Mohe are delicious, they should not be consumed in excess, especially for those with sensitive stomachs—try to eat as little as possible.
10: When skiing at the Mohe ski resort, try to go around noon when the temperature is slightly higher and not too cold.
