Arctic Village National Forest Park is located in Mohe County, China’s northernmost and highest-latitude region, facing Russia across the river. The historical lowest temperature recorded here was -52.3°C, with an average annual temperature of -3.8°C and significant diurnal temperature variations, earning it the reputation of experiencing “four seasons in one day.” It is now a national 4A-level tourist attraction and a national ecological civilization education base. It has been honored as one of the nation’s “50 Places Foreigners Most Want to Visit.” In 2012, Arctic Village National Forest Park was awarded the title of “Most Influential Forest Park,” one of only 30 in the country to receive this recognition. Sun Xiguo, the then county (bureau) head, was also honored with the title of “Outstanding Individual Contributor.” The park features undulating mountain ranges and layered peaks, presenting a majestic and pristine landscape. 92% of its area is covered by primeval forests, with a rich variety of tree species dominated by Korean pine, larch, birch, and poplar. The vegetation and ecological environment are well-preserved, and it boasts a diverse array of wildlife, including over 400 species of rare birds and animals. Species under national key protection include lynx, sable, brown bear, and snow hare. Blueberries, red beans, wild vegetables, and more thrive across the mountains, along with over 300 kinds of valuable medicinal herbs, indicating great potential for resource development.

The park is abundant in tourism resources, featuring exclusive attractions such as Christmas World, the Source of the Heilongjiang River, and Magical Natural Phenomena. It is the only place in China where you can see the aurora borealis and the midnight sun. The park includes over 30 scenic spots and attractions, such as Qixing Mountain Wetland Park, Arctic Sandbar, Northern Folk Culture Park, Christmas Village, Xuanwu Square, and Golden Rooster Summit. As of November 2012, the park had welcomed a total of 1,258,600 visitors, including 47,800 international tourists. Total tourism revenue reached 287,917,500 yuan, a 58% increase over the previous year. Ticket revenue hit a record high of 8,637,500 yuan.

Arctic Village: Originally called Mohe Village, China’s Arctic Village in Mohe County began to be inhabited in 1860. Located at the northern foot of the Greater Khingan Mountains, on the southern bank of the upper reaches of the Heilongjiang River, and at the foot of Qixing Mountain, it faces Russia’s Yiganasiyno across the river. Its geographical coordinates are: 122°21’05” to 122°21’30” east longitude, and 53°27’00” to 53°33’30” north latitude. It proudly stands at the northernmost point of the country and is known as the “City of Eternal Light.” It is the best observation spot in the nation for both the aurora borealis and the white nights.
