Jilin University

Founded in 1946, Jilin University was designated as a national key university in 1960. It became one of the first 22 universities to establish a graduate school in 1984, was among the first group approved under the national “211 Project” by the State Education Commission in 1995, and was included in the “985 Project” for key national university development in 2001. In 2004, it was approved as a university directly administered by the central government.

In 2000, the former Jilin University, Jilin University of Technology, Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences, Changchun University of Science and Technology, and Changchun Institute of Posts and Telecommunications merged to form the new Jilin University. In 2004, the former PLA Academy of Military Supply joined as well.

The university offers a comprehensive range of disciplines through its 43 colleges, covering all 13 major academic categories: philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, military science, and art. It has 129 undergraduate programs, 59 first-level master's degree authorization points, 44 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 304 master's degree authorization points, 244 doctoral degree authorization points, and 42 postdoctoral research stations. Among these, there are 4 first-level national key disciplines (covering 17 second-level disciplines), 15 second-level national key disciplines, 4 national key (cultivation) disciplines, and 47 projects under the “Double First-Class” initiative for top universities and disciplines.
