Changchun Gymnasium

Changchun Gymnasium is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jilin Province.

Changchun Gymnasium is located on Renmin Avenue in Changchun and is one of the earliest gymnasiums built in Jilin Province after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The architect was Professor Ge Ruliang from Tongji University. Construction began in April 1956 and the facility was completed in November 1957, covering a total area of 13,650 square meters. It is a four-story, east-facing "I"-shaped building. The competition hall has a span of 42 meters, is 60 meters long, 26 meters high, and accommodates 4,299 seats. It was one of the top ten buildings in Changchun in the early years of the People’s Republic and was once featured in the Encyclopædia Britannica, making it a cultural heritage structure of the city.

Changchun Gymnasium enjoys convenient transportation. It is about a 40-minute drive from Changchun Longjia International Airport and approximately 15 minutes from Changchun Railway Station. Multiple bus lines pass by the gymnasium.

Changchun Gymnasium is situated in a bustling area, directly opposite Children’s Park and adjacent to Changchun Peony Garden, offering an elegant environment. About 400 meters north of the gymnasium is People’s Square; 800 meters west is Cultural Square, which is also a hub for street basketball in Changchun. Chongqing Road Pedestrian Street lies to the north of the gymnasium, and Guilin Road to the south—both are great shopping destinations, also home to a wide variety of restaurants.
