South Lake Hotel Complex

The South Lake Hotel Complex is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jilin Province.

The Changchun South Lake Hotel was designed by Bu Yi of the Jilin Provincial Architectural Design Institute and constructed by the First Construction Engineering Company of Changchun. Construction began in 1958, and the hotel was put into use in 1959. The entire project consists of a three-story main building and six villas, with a total construction area of 2,900 square meters.

The Changchun South Lake Hotel was designed following traditional Chinese garden-style layout techniques, integrating the building complex with natural and man-made landscapes such as water surfaces, trees, and pavilions. The main building is modeled after an imperial palace structure from the Ming Dynasty, featuring slightly upturned eaves, full-height columns, and a grand and majestic appearance. The six smaller buildings, including styles such as Chinese, French, and German, each have their own unique character. They are arranged like fans within the wooded southeast corner of the courtyard, where the beautiful natural scenery blends seamlessly with classical Eastern gardens and distinctive Western-style villa architecture.
