Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument on Taishang Town

The Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument on Taishang Town is located on the hillside at the junction of Xing’an Village and Guangming Village, 4 li east of Xing’an Village, Taishang Town, Ji’an City.

The monument was built in the spring of 1989 under the initiative of Cui Dongjian, a farmer from Liujia Village, Taishang Town, with active support and organization by the Party Committee of Taishang Town, the People’s Government of Taishang Town, and the People’s Armed Forces Department of Taishang Town, which encouraged widespread public donations. A total of 1,291 people contributed, raising 3,419 yuan in total, and the monument was completed on May 20 of the same year. The martyrs’ tower is 7.5 meters high and covers an area of 1,900 square meters, with a five-pointed star installed at its top. The front of the tower is inscribed with the words: “Eternal Glory to Revolutionary Martyrs.” The inscription on the back reads: “From the War of Resistance Against Japan to the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, the people of our Taishang Town, under the leadership of the Communist Party, fought bravely alongside soldiers, cadres, and civilians against the enemy, sacrificing themselves one after another and composing heroic chapters. Notably, martyrs such as Wang [name missing], Gao [name missing], and others gave their lives in battlefields, while others, including Wang [name missing], Yang [name missing], and Liu [name missing], fell heroically during the Korean War. Their remains are buried in this land. Also resting here are other unnamed heroes who perished in battle. Additionally, those who contributed funds or materials for the construction of this monument are also remembered here. Today, on this site where martyrs once fought and fell, we build this monument to enshrine their spirit and preserve their memory.” The base of the monument is engraved with the following inscription: “During the Anti-Japanese War, the Liberation War, and the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, 19 soldiers were killed during the construction of fortifications, and 39 martyrs from Taishang who died on battlefields elsewhere bring the total number of martyrs to 58.

Behind this martyrs’ tower lie the graves of three unnamed martyrs. The tombstone was erected in March 1987 by Cui Dongjian, a farmer from Liujia Village, Taishang Town. It is inscribed with the words “Martyrs’ Tomb” on the front, and on the back: “In 1946, during the War of Liberation, three comrades from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army sustained severe injuries during a battle retreat. While being carried to the rear by stretcher teams, they unfortunately sacrificed their lives en route and their names were never recorded. To commemorate their heroic sacrifice for the nation, this monument has been erected to stand eternal.” March 8, lunar year of Dingmao, 1987. Main sponsor: Cui Dongjian.

The monument serves as an important base for patriotic education by the governments of Ji’an City and Taishang Town.
