Site of the Qidaojiang Meeting
The Site of the Qidaojiang Meeting is a cultural relics protection unit of Jilin Province, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.
The "Site of the Qidaojiang Meeting" is located in Qidaojiang Village, Qidaojiang Town, Badaojiang District. The original site was the office of the "Tongming Coal Mine," a single-story building with blue stone bricks and tiles, with a total floor area of 96 square meters. Renovations were carried out in June 1984. In 1987, it was listed as a key cultural relics protection unit of Jilin Province. In 2004, it was named by the provincial Party committee as one of the first education bases for Communist Party members in the province.
In 2005, an investment of 23.69 million yuan was made to expand and renovate the site into the Qidaojiang Meeting Memorial Hall (including restored original buildings, exhibition rooms, offices, etc.). It covers a total area of 2,200 square meters, with a construction area of 1,000 square meters. The building features an antique structure, recreating the scene of a meeting held on December 13, 1946, attended by division-level and higher officers such as Chen Yun and Xiao Jingguang. The exhibition rooms are equipped with historical materials, photos, documents, artifacts, textual descriptions, and a multimedia screening room. At 9:30 a.m. on November 17, 2005, Wang Yukun, then Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the CPC, and Yan Baotai, Secretary of the Baishan Municipal Committee, unveiled the renovated Site of the Qidaojiang Meeting. The seven gilded characters "Qidaojiang Meeting Site" were inscribed by the former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
In September 1946, the Nationalist army concentrated 100,000 troops to launch a major offensive against the South Manchuria Base Area, attempting to occupy southern Manchuria and then focus forces to attack northern Manchuria, with the ambition of monopolizing the entire Northeast. At this critical juncture, in order to strengthen unified leadership in the Northeast region, the Central Committee of the CPC dispatched Comrades Chen Yun and Xiao Jingguang to Linjiang to command military operations.
Some leading cadres within the Party and the military in the southern Manchuria region lacked confidence in holding southern Manchuria, and opinions were divided. To unify the thinking of all cadres, the Southern Manchuria Sub-bureau of the CPC and the Liaodong Military Region held a meeting of division-level and higher officers from December 11 to 14 in Qidaojiang Village, Linjiang County (at that time), historically known as the "Qidaojiang Meeting." The meeting was chaired by Deputy Political Commissar Xiao Hua, with a report given by Xiao Jingguang. The theme of the meeting was: holding the southern Manchuria base area and the future strategy for combat. On the evening of December 13 at midnight, [Name redacted] braved a snowstorm and traveled from Linjiang to Qidaojiang to attend the meeting. After carefully listening to different opinions and fully promoting democracy, [Name redacted] made the decision to "hold southern Manchuria and defend northern Manchuria." This was a decisive move that turned the overall situation in our favor, thus marking the beginning of the "Four Defenses of Linjiang" campaign. Five county towns, including Ji'an, Huinan, and Huanren, were recaptured. This laid a solid foundation for our army's overall counteroffensive in the Northeast battlefield. From then on, our army gradually shifted from defense to offense, heralding the prelude to the liberation of all of China.
The "Qidaojiang Meeting" was a glorious military conference in the history of our Party during the Northeast Liberation War. This meeting holds significant historical importance in both the history of the Party and military history.
