Baquan Mountain
Baquan Mountain
In golden September, I had the pleasure of visiting Baquan Mountain. Wandering through its expanse, I was treated to breathtaking scenery. Especially enchanting were the magical, graceful, beautiful, and solemn clouds and mists bestowed upon Baquan Mountain by nature — so vivid and lifelike, so transcendent that they evoked the poetic imagery of “the boundless blue void without end, with sun and moon illuminating a terrace of gold and silver.” Lost in this realm, it felt like a dreamlike fantasy.
At dawn, treading on dewdrops yet to evaporate, I climbed step by step toward the mountaintop of Baquan. The mist at the summit was dignified and vast, deep in feeling and far-reaching in mood. It surged across deep valleys and ravines like a wild horse breaking free, spreading out in all directions.
Its grandeur was not fierce, its warmth not thin — it caressed the crystal-clear and spiritually infused waters of Baquan. At this very moment, the resplendent and exquisite Baquan Mountain was enveloped in an extraordinary, mystical mist.
A gentle breeze wrapped in mist brushed against my face, lifting my entire body with waves of air — soft, soothing… Arriving at the mountaintop and looking around, I saw secluded valleys, forests, seas of clouds, and rolling mists — all majestic and spectacular. The vast mist filled the mountain ridges and valleys, sparse in some areas, dense in others, draped in cloud veils and swaying in the wind. Some formations resembled canopies with tassels hanging low; others looked like phoenixes or dragons ready to soar. The mountain winds stirred the tranquil sea of clouds, creating layer upon layer of ripples, rising and falling, their shapes resembling waterfalls cascading from the sky — mighty and ceaseless. Up close, the valley streams flowed, jagged rocks stood tall, birds chirped in the gullies, and lush trees stood gracefully. Countless bright and colorful flowers bloomed all over the peaks, ridges, and beside springs and streams, releasing intoxicating fragrances. What a heavenly paradise reminiscent of the celestial pools of Tiantai.
As the sun rose in the east, Baquan Mountain became shrouded in rising clouds and mist. The white clouds instantly transformed into rosy hues. With the movement of sunlight, the colorful clouds danced up and down — like noble peonies in full bloom, elegant and luxurious; or like celestial robes dancing across the vast sky. Truly, the mists drifted, petals fell like rain. The layered peaks, enwrapped in drifting clouds, seemed veiled in a hazy gauze, each mountain appearing like an immortal island now sinking, now floating. Whenever a light breeze passed, the mists floated away like graceful silk ribbons — piece by piece, strand by strand — dancing elegantly toward the heavens. One could not help but exclaim: “The mountain floats in a realm of nothingness, as if it were the immortal pavilions of Penglai.”
The masterpiece of nature brings delightful emotions and joy to the human world. Looking back at the fairyland-like Baquan Mountain — its magnificent mountain vistas, its flowing mists like drifting clouds — all stir one’s passion and leave one lingering with reluctance...
