The Korean Ethnic Folk Village is situated in the eastern part of Changbai County on the frontier of the motherland. Nestled against mountains and beside waters, it boasts beautiful and simple scenery, facing Huishan City in Ryanggang Province of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the river. Traditional customs and folk culture blend seamlessly with the landscape, casting a mysterious aura over this small village and giving it distinctive characteristics.

Upon arriving at the folk village, it feels as if you've stepped into an ink-wash landscape painting. The first thing that catches your eye is the archway in front of the village. With its soaring winged eaves, exquisite carvings, and extraordinary presence, the archway exudes the unique charm of a borderland ethnic culture. Passing through the gate, you’ll be greeted by the elegance and refinement of ancient Korean ethnic architecture, presenting a scene straight out of a paradise. The entire square is built entirely with wood and stone structures, ingeniously designed, sturdy, and aesthetically pleasing. Exquisite carvings can be seen everywhere: take the “Magpie Bridge” built right at the entrance—it’s constructed from pine wood, symbolizing joy and good fortune; the “Cultural Wall” is entirely made from pebbles from the Yalu River and rocks from the Changbai White Deer Rock, showcasing the great civilization and long history of the Korean ethnic group; the covered walkway is modeled after ancient architecture, with carved beams and painted rafters, both beautiful and unique; the wooden waterwheels of various sizes are placed on both sides of the Historical River, singing the praises of a new life while reflecting the cultural roots shared by the Korean and Han peoples. The most intriguing is the “Rice Fragrance House,” whose architectural style completely imitates traditional Korean ethnic houses—wooden structure with a thatched roof. The clean and tidy crop yard is furnished with tools used in the daily life and labor of the Korean people, allowing visitors to feel the accumulation of historical culture over thousands of years.

The uniquely charming folk village is filled with a strong ethnic atmosphere, where the rich and colorful traditions are vividly displayed. The locals are simple, kind, and hospitable. Visiting here without tasting Korean ethnic cuisine would be a missed opportunity. Korean food is diverse, including cold noodles, rice cakes, dog meat, kimchi, steamed cakes, pine-flavored pancakes, oil honey fruits, stuffed cakes, and “Jiangmuli Soup” (sauce soup), among others. The cuisine is mainly characterized by cool and spicy flavors—it’s truly delicious and leaves you wanting more. After enjoying the tasty dishes, you can also stroll amidst the mountains and waters,

taking in the beautiful scenery of clear mountains and green waters. Especially during the transition between spring and summer each year, the endless apricot and pear blossoms, like blankets of snow or wisps of light smoke, bloom vibrantly on the branches, filling the air with a subtle fragrance. Wandering beneath these flowers and trees makes one feel as if they’ve ascended to a fairyland. This enchanting scenery adds another layer of charm to the village.

The folk village is also a renowned village of song and dance. During holidays, weddings, and birthday celebrations, Korean villagers dress in vibrant ethnic costumes and dance joyfully to the tunes of traditional Korean folk songs, showcasing the richness of Korean traditional culture and expressing their happiness. The graceful and captivating Korean folk dances—such as the hat dance, farmers’ music dance, long drum dance, fan dance, and water-carrying dance—vary in melody and rhythm, flowing gently, softly, powerfully, or elegantly... Simple, warm, and timeless, they all make you deeply feel that this is a magical land that is both vast and passionate, profound and captivating.

Walking along the cement-paved paths, you’ll see the surrounding houses are also simple and elegant, grand in scale, with houses standing in close rows, courtyards layered one after another, and winged eaves soaring layer upon layer. The flying rafters and upturned eaves are bold and unrestrained, standing like flying cranes, adorned with red and blue glazed tiles that add a touch of splendor, delightful to the eye. From the overall layout to the details, everything reflects the ingenuity and masterful craftsmanship of the artisans, displaying the modern admiration for the refined tastes of the ancients.
