Traveling upstream along the Yalu River from Changbai Korean Autonomous County, about 90 kilometers from the county town, you’ll reach the world-renowned southern foot of Heaven Lake on Changbai Mountain. Ascending to the lake from the southern slope offers a unique experience. Along the way, you’ll encounter towering peaks, cliffs like walls, primeval forest landscapes with diverse vegetation, as well as renowned attractions such as the Bone River Valley, Camel Peak, and Tiger Fang Peak. These sights showcase the wondrous beauty of nature. Standing atop the southern peak of Heaven Lake, you can take in the entire alpine lake, with all sixteen peaks of Heaven Lake vying in beauty and the unfathomably deep waters of the lake itself.

The southern slope of Changbai Mountain is especially suitable for travelers with limited mobility or seniors, as the entire journey can be enjoyed without walking — the scenery unfolds right along the road. However, the mountain roads on the southern slope are equally thrilling.
