Baijiatuan Sightseeing and Picking Garden
Speaking of Wenquan’s Baijiatuan, it’s a place rich in cultural heritage. Not far away lies the Cao Xueqin Trail, where the famous author once crossed the mountains from the Fragrant Hills and walked this path to his residence in Baijiatuan to write *Dream of the Red Chamber*. This trail undoubtedly inspired him. The area also has a “Celebrity Village,” where many notable figures have made their homes. Moreover, the mountain spring water here is of excellent quality—elderly people often come from the city to carry it back for drinking. The cherries grown in such a blessed land, nourished daily by mountain spring water and steeped in cultural ambiance, can’t help but be delicious.
Baijiatuan Picking Garden is one of Beijing’s most productive cherry orchards. Its 300-acre plot is neatly arranged with good soil—perfect for cherries, which are quite particular about their growing conditions, making them thrive here. This year’s main varieties include Hongyan, Hongmi, Italian Early Fruits, and Lapins. The early varieties are already ready for picking—delicately pink and deep red. Spotting some especially eye-catching bright red cherries, you pop one into your mouth and are met with a burst of sweet juice. Truly, these are cherries nourished by mountain spring water.
