Siping Heroes' Square

Siping Heroes' Square is a science education base.

Originally named the Siping Railway Station Martyrs' Square, abbreviated as Martyrs' Square. It was first built in 1951 and completed in 1953. The square covers an area of 12,000 square meters, with the main tower standing 23.50 meters tall, the base circumference measuring 75.60 meters, and the base area being 237.38 square meters. The east, south, west, and north sides of the tower originally featured inscriptions by -, Gao Gang, Tao Zhu, and Lin Feng.

They read: "Eternal glory to the martyrs who fought and sacrificed for the liberation of the people" – inscribed on March 21, 1949; "The sun and moon shine together, the mountains and rivers endure, the people's soldiers live forever" – Gao Gang, September 1950; "In memory of the martyrs who bravely sacrificed in Siping"; "Those who die for a just cause leave blossoms ever green, those who fight the enemy leave sacred soil fragrant" – respectfully inscribed by Tao Zhu; "The finest sons and daughters of China, eternal through the ages" – Lin Feng, September 1950. On the east side of the Martyrs' Tower, there was once an archway with the inscription "Siping Martyrs Memorial Tower" written by Yan Baohang, then Chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Government. All these inscriptions were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. Currently, the eastern side bears the inscription "Eternal Glory to the People's Heroes" by Mao Zedong.

Over the fifty-plus years since its construction, the tower has become a sacred site in the hearts of the people of Siping. The Martyrs' Memorial Tower has now become a symbolic landmark of the Hero City of Siping. The Siping Municipal Government has carried out maintenance and renovation work on the Martyrs' Tower Square three times. In June 2000, it was renamed Heroes' Square. Every year on Tomb-Sweeping Day, it serves as a site where the people of Siping pay tribute to the martyrs, with tens of thousands of people from all walks of life participating in commemorative activities. In 1961, Heroes' Square was listed by the Jilin Provincial Government as a key revolutionary cultural relic protection unit. In 1986, it was designated by the Jilin Provincial People's Government as a key protected revolutionary martyrs' memorial building. In 1995, it was listed by the Jilin Provincial Government as a patriotic education base.
