Yitong River

The Yitong River, known in ancient times as Yitou River, Yitun River, or Yidun River—each being a transliteration from Manchu—means “mighty” or “raging.” Its source lies at the northern foot of Qingding Mountain in Qiyuan Town, the southernmost part of Yitong County. The Yitong River is the largest tributary of the Yinma River and also the major river that flows through the Changchun area. It flows through the Changchun region and Dehui City, and empties into the Yinma River to the east of Kao Mountain in Nong’an County. With a total length of 342.5 kilometers and a drainage area of 8,440 square kilometers, it stretches 286.9 kilometers within Changchun (including 23 kilometers through the urban area of Changchun), covering a basin area of 5,412.9 square kilometers. The Yitong River has played a significant role in the formation and development of the city of Changchun. However, due to changes in hydrological conditions, it no longer serves navigational purposes.

Qiyuan Town: Qiyuan Town is located in the southeastern part of Yitong Manchu Autonomous County. It borders three cities (Dongfeng, Panshi, and Changchun) and six townships (Shahexiang, Chaoyangshan, Jichang, Didingzi, Erdao, and Yingchengzi). The town government is situated 42 kilometers from the county seat. The town covers an area of 243 square kilometers, with 5,067 hectares of arable land. This includes 755 hectares of paddy fields, 12,880 hectares of forested land, and a forest coverage rate of 53%.
