Zhongguancun Square

Zhongguancun Square, originally named the West Zone of Zhongguancun, was a major initiative under the national strategy of revitalizing the country through science and education. It represented an important decision by the Beijing municipal government to adjust the industrial structure, vigorously develop the knowledge economy and high-tech industries, and shape the image of the capital as a modern international metropolis in the 21st century. In June 1999, the State Council responded to the request from the Beijing municipal government and the Ministry of Science and Technology regarding the construction of the Zhongguancun Science Park, deciding to develop Zhongguancun into a high-tech park with beautiful surroundings, complete facilities, convenient transportation, and smooth information flow within about ten years.

The construction of Zhongguancun Square officially commenced on June 20, 2000. As the high-tech business center of Zhongguancun, the square will focus on finance and information services, scientific research and development, business trade, administrative offices, and technology exhibitions. It will also be equipped with public supporting facilities such as commercial spaces, hotels, dining, apartments, culture, fitness, entertainment, and large green areas, providing a comprehensive public service platform for the development of high-tech enterprises.

Zhongguancun Square is located in Haidian Town, Haidian District. It borders Zhongguancun Avenue to the east, Caihefang Road to the west, starts from the North Fourth Ring Road to the north, and extends to Haidian Town South Street to the south. With distant views of the Summer Palace, the Old Summer Palace, and the scenic spots of the Western Hills in Beijing, and close proximity to renowned institutions such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the area lies in the core of Zhongguancun — a region rich in historical culture and strong in scientific research atmosphere.
