University of Science and Technology Beijing
The University of Science and Technology Beijing was established in 1952 through the merger of the mining and metallurgy departments of six prestigious universities across China, including Tianjin University (formerly Peiyang University) and Tsinghua University. It has since developed into a comprehensive national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, with engineering as its core and a coordinated development of multiple disciplines including science, management, humanities, economics, and law. It was among the first universities in China to officially establish graduate schools. In May 1997, the university was among the first to be included in the national “211 Project” initiative. In 2006, it became one of the pilot institutions for the “985 Project” Advantageous Disciplines Innovation Platform. In 2014, the “Collaborative Innovation Center of Steel Technology,” led by the university and centered around the University of Science and Technology Beijing and Northeastern University, was successfully selected for the national “2011 Plan.” In 2017, the university was included in the national “Double First-Class” initiative.
