As one of the architectural essences of the "One Pagoda, One Lake, One Library" (一塔湖图) in the Yan Garden, Boya Pagoda is a masterpiece that perfectly integrates functionality, artistic design, and harmony with its surroundings. Originally serving as the campus water tower, its ingenious design is a stroke of genius in the construction of the Yan Garden. Located on a small hill southeast of Weiming Lake, Boya Pagoda was modeled after the ancient Ran Deng Pagoda in Tongzhou and built in the style of a dense-eave brick pagoda from the Liao Dynasty.

Boya Pagoda is located on a small hill southeast of Weiming Lake and was built in the style of an ancient dense-eave brick pagoda, modeled after the Ran Deng Ancient Pagoda in Tongzhou from the Liao Dynasty.

The majestic Boya Pagoda, together with the surrounding pine and cypress trees and the shimmering waters of Weiming Lake, forms a major scenic highlight of the Yan Garden. Thanks to its cleverly chosen location, it can be seen from various vantage points both inside and outside Peking University, nestled among pillars and ancient trees, adding to its charm and mystique. Boya Pagoda stands like an old man weathered by time, silently by the lake, witnessing the ever-changing tides of history. Its tightly closed door is akin to the old man’s closed heart, holding within it the weight of countless years.
