Wangtian Cave

Wangtian Cave is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Located in Huanren Manchu Autonomous County, Wangtian Cave has been discovered to extend over 5,000 meters in length. The cave features captivating landscapes that are strange, unique, and perilous, including stone forests, city walls, snow lotuses, glaciers, fountains, waterfalls, and underground rivers. Wangtian Cave is a rare wonder in the world. Experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have called the cave’s 6,000-square-meter hall and its 10,000-meter-long maze on the upper, middle, and lower levels the best in the world.

Wangtian Cave is situated atop a mountain more than 70 meters high, east of Wanwanchuan Village in Yahe Township. The cave formed 200,000 years ago and has a total length of over 7,000 meters, with the largest chamber spanning over 6,000 square meters—capable of holding ten thousand people. The entire cave consists of four major scenic areas and over 100 attractions. The labyrinth inside the cave is even more peculiar, earning it the title “the premier cave of the north, unmatched maze in the world.” The cave has two entrances side by side, with a thick stone beam between them, thicker than two people can span. The right entrance is 50 square meters in size, and on the stone wall above it is a large bird with wings spread and head raised, facing east, looking remarkably lifelike—it is named “Kunpeng Facing the Sun.” The left entrance is 35 square meters. The two entrances strikingly resemble a giant pair of glasses placed atop the mountain. Following the stone wall of the left entrance, holding the iron railing and stepping on the stone stairs, you cross the “Sky Bridge” and descend over 30 meters to reach the cave’s first major hall—the “Immortals’ Gathering Hall.” It is broad and lofty, capable of accommodating a thousand people. Looking back upward, two beams of light shoot straight into the hall, giving one the sensation of embracing the sun and gazing into the blue sky. In spring, winter, or right after rain or snow, the hall fills with swirling clouds that rise from the entrance. The interplay of the mist and the green trees outside the cave entrance creates an indescribably marvelous scene. Inside the cave, stalactites abound, glittering and translucent, displaying a myriad of forms. The “Huaqing Pool” has a flat, snow-white bottom and gentle green water, with a solitary stalactite standing quietly nearby, as if guarding a bathing maiden. “Listening Behind the Curtain” exudes an imperial aura, with dense stalactites resembling layers of golden curtains, and a figure of the “Old Buddha” seated within, deep in contemplation. “Cloisonné” is delicate and small, with yellow on top and blue below—naturally formed stalactites display distinctly different colors, and the blue ones take the shape of a vase. When visitors see the “Pearl Wall,” they are awed by its grand and spectacular presence. Stalactites of all shapes and sizes can be seen everywhere—like peaks and summits, towers and Buddhas, flowers and waterfalls, forests and bamboo shoots—each with its own magical charm. Inside the cave, the paths twist and turn, going up and down. At the narrowest points, only one person can pass through; the passage feels tight for the stout but roomy for the slim. In the “Maze,” multiple paths loop around in similar patterns, bringing a sense of playful fun. Yet every path eventually leads out of the maze, though the scenes outside each exit are different. The maze is divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, with caves within caves, all interconnected, and doors within doors, all passable. The total length exceeds 1,100 meters, making it a marvel rarely seen in the world. Once inside, you wander back and forth, unable to distinguish directions, finding endless delight in the experience.
