Marble Boat
The Marble Boat was originally called the Stone Boat. It is one of the famous scenic spots in the Summer Palace and a well-known waterside structure within the garden.
The upper cabin was originally built in the form of classical Chinese architecture. But it was destroyed by fire when the Anglo-French Allied Forces invaded. In the 19th year of the Guangxu reign (1893), as per Empress Dowager Cixi's instructions, the original Chinese-style cabin was reconstructed into a Western-style one. The hull is 36 meters long and carved from massive stone blocks. The two-story cabin is made of wood but painted to resemble marble patterns. The roof is adorned with exquisite brick carvings, making it both delicate and magnificent.
