Songshan Fairy Cave Scenic Area
Songshan Fairy Cave Scenic Area
Songshan Fairy Cave was originally named “Shan Yan Jing” and is located on the mountainside of Feilai Peak in Wolonggang, part of the Changbai Mountain range
, and is another natural cave discovered in our province after Benxi Water Cave
, its unique geographical features forming a distinctive tourism resource. The total area exceeds 500 acres. The Songshan Fairy Cave Scenic Area is located within Xiagzizhuang Village, Beisan Township, Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County, on the edge of National Highway
202, about 11 kilometers from the county town. The mountain got its name “Shan Yan Jing” (literally “Mountain Rock Well”) from a natural vertical well that runs from top to bottom. In the 11th year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty, the 25-year-old Nurhaci was besieged by Nikan Wailan’s troops at "Shan Yan Jing" but was guided to safety by an immortal,
leading Nurhaci to deem “Shan Yan Jing” a fairy cave—an appellation that has been passed down to this day. According to archaeological experts, this cave has a long history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties.
Since 1994, local forestry officials Zhao Yuxiang and Wang Xingjia have invested in developing over 1,500 meters of this cave. The cave features a myriad of shapes and perilous scenes, including a straight vertical shaft that seems to reach the sky and bizarre caves that delve into the earth. Inside, there are large deposits of stalactite draperies, stone axes, pottery shards, man-made wooden artifacts, animal bones, and other relics. The stone walls resemble formations such as a heavenly child being born, cascading stream curtains, glacier-like stone waterfalls, a divine ox gazing at the moon, a mother and baby elephant, and a turtle bowing to Guanyin. The mountain is covered with dense vegetation, growing kiwi berries, schisandra berries, wild grapes, wild vegetables, and mushrooms. Blossoms such as little peach red, golden daisy, and lilies complement the pine waves, creating an exceptionally beautiful and pleasant scenery. On the cliffs, there are dozens of ancient pines over 600 years old, and traces of plant fossils have also been discovered. At the foot of the mountain, there is abundant mineral water. The Longquan Spring is connected to the Tiger Mountain Buddha Cave over a kilometer away and has flowed continuously since ancient times. This place is hailed as the “Huangshan of the Northeast” and the “Reed Flute Cave of Guilin,” making it a uniquely spectacular destination for adventure tourism that leaves visitors enchanted.
