Xinbin Shuangling Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Shuangling Temple is a renowned Buddhist sacred site in the scenic area. It was first built during the Zhenguan era of the Tang Dynasty. Legend has it that the eminent monk Fawu from the Western Regions traveled here, setting up a thatched hut by Xiyue Pool to meditate.

On the night of the full moon in the seventh lunar month, clouds gathered overhead and wisps of incense smoke drifted with the wind. In deep meditation, the master saw the Immortals of the Turtle and Snake kneeling together in front of the temple, pleading with the master to take them as disciples and initiate them into Buddhism. Observing with his enlightened vision, the master saw that the two immortals had profound spiritual attainments and had performed many good deeds throughout their lives, thus capable of achieving enlightenment. He accepted them as disciples and tasked them with guarding the mountain. The Spirit Snake guarded the Guanyin Cliff, while the Divine Turtle lay at Maitreya Mountain. Today, the two immortals have taken the form of stones and, obeying their master’s command, still guard the site. Within three years, Master Fawu cultivated extensive blessings, raised donations from various sources, and built a grand and majestic temple. Inspired by the harmony of yin and yang in nature, he named the temple Shuangling, meaning “Twin Spirits,” a name of profound significance.

In the Buddhist year 2550, the current abbot of Shuangling Temple, Master Chuanwu, under the guidance of Guanyin Bodhisattva and with the blessing of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, welcomed the present-day accomplished Tai Ping Flesh Body Bodhisattva—Master Congwen—from Jiuhua Mountain’s West Peak Temple. Truly, “The Tai Ping Bodhisattva protects peace, the auspicious Shuangling Temple blesses good fortune.” Paying homage to the true body of Master Congwen allows one to feel the boundlessness of the Dharma and realize that all can attain Buddhahood.
