Jinzhou Museum is located on the north side of the Guta Historical and Cultural Park in the city. Established in 1953, it was initially named the Preparatory Office of the Liaoxi Provincial Geographical Museum and is a comprehensive local museum.

Since its establishment, the museum has been located within the "Guangji Temple Ancient Architectural Complex." For many years, active preservation and maintenance work have been carried out on the ancient buildings. In June 2001, the "Guangji Temple Ancient Architectural Complex" was listed as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

With the development of the cultural heritage sector, in 2000, the municipal government invested over 20 million yuan to construct a new building for Jinzhou Museum adjacent to the west of the ancient architectural complex. The new building officially opened in December 2001. The new museum building and the Guangji Temple Ancient Architectural Complex blend seamlessly, covering a total area of more than 13,000 square meters.

Since its establishment, the collection at Jinzhou Museum has grown rapidly. Currently, the collection is divided into 16 major categories, including porcelain, bronze ware, and calligraphy and paintings, totaling over ten thousand items. Among them, first- and second-class cultural relics account for a certain proportion, and there are also many unique national treasures.

Jinzhou Museum has established specialized and administrative departments such as Conservation, Exhibition, Public Education, Ancient Architecture Protection, and Security. Over the years, it has implemented scientific management of its collections, ensuring their proper preservation. It has also successively launched permanent exhibitions such as "The Loyal Souls of the Jiawu War," "Historical Civilization of the Liaoxi Corridor," "Collection Highlights Exhibition," "Liaoxi Folk Customs," "Museum Porcelain Collection," "Religious Art," and "The Song of the Liaoxi Anti-Japanese Volunteer Army." Additionally, it has hosted touring exhibitions such as "Fossils of Ancient Life in Liaoxi" and "Cultural Relics Unearthed in 1845."

In terms of public education, the museum provides complete and concise explanations, including English tours, to complement the exhibitions. To attract elementary and middle school students to visit and learn, it pioneered a visitor card system (3 yuan per card for students, valid for one year with unlimited visits), resulting in a continuous stream of student visitors. Over the years, central leaders such as Wei Jianxing, then Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Wang Guangying, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and the provincial governor, among others, have visited Jinzhou Museum for inspection and have given high praise.

In research, in addition to publishing monographs, Jinzhou Museum has published 25 professional papers in national-level journals and 63 in provincial-level journals. It has also developed a specialized anti-theft alarm system for museum storage. These research achievements have had a significant impact nationwide. Jinzhou Museum has now become a base for patriotic education and a demonstration base for national defense education in Liaoning Province. With its elegant environment and rich cultural content, it is a key cultural tourism destination in the Liaoxi region.

Opening hours:

Tuesday–Sunday: 9:00–16:00. Closed on Mondays. Also closed on Friday afternoons for staff training.

Free admission. Individual visitors may collect a free entry ticket upon presenting a valid ID. Group visits require coordination and approval from the museum’s public education department at least one week in advance.
