Zhang Zuoxiang's Former Residence in Jinzhou

Zhang Zuoxiang's Former Residence in Jinzhou is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The Zhang Zuoxiang Mansion in Jinzhou was built in the 1920s by Zhang Zuoxiang for his father, Zhang Jingquan. Covering an area of over 20 acres, it consists of three sets of buildings aligned from east to west. The main structure on the easternmost side is a two-story building that blends Chinese and Western architectural styles; the middle section is a three-courtyard quadrangle complex; and the westernmost part includes a gatehouse, swimming pool, and more. There are over 100 rooms in total, and the four corners of the courtyard also feature two-story corner towers.

Protected area: Within the perimeter wall and within 20 meters outside the outer base of the wall.

Construction control zone: A first-class construction control zone extends 30 meters beyond the protected area.

Zhang Zuoxiang (1881–1949), originally named Fuchen, with courtesy names Fuchen and Fuchen, was born in Yixian County, Fengtian (now Banjitata Township, Zhamulinzi Village, Linghai City, Liaoning Province). His ancestral home was in Taiguzhuang Huapen Village, Shen County, Zhili (now Qianmotou Town, Shenxian County, Hebei Province). He was a military general of the Republic of China and a general in the National Revolutionary Army.

On the ninth day of the second lunar month in the seventh year of the Guangxu reign (March 8, 1881), he was born into a poor farming family, with generations of ancestors working as peasants. His fifth-generation ancestor, Zhang Delu, ventured into Manchuria to seek a livelihood. His father, Zhang Yong’an, farmed and also worked as a “funeral musician.” He had two brothers, with Zhang Zuoxiang being the eldest and Zhang Zuotao the younger.
